Driving and Wheeling the Ultimate Adventure Long Range Jeep #UA2020
Part 25: So how did the 2020 UA LRJ do?
Completing the Ultimate Adventure is a lifetime accomplishment for any off-road enthusiast, even those of us who have had the opportunity to partake of the event in the past. The 2020 Ultimate Adventure is no different, and we are proud to say that we did it, the UA LRJ did it, and we'd do it all over again given the chance. No one doubts that 2020 is a dumpster fire of a year, and while we were able to make the event happen (thanks to social distancing, wearing masks, and daily COVID-19 testing) there have been many times before and during the event where it seemed like the dream of the UA 2020 just wouldn't happen or end as intended.
I for one am happy and very proud to say that we did it. The event and vehicle build couldn't have happened without hard work from many, many folks. I've tried to thank everyone who's helped in person, and if you helped with the build or the event, you know who you are, and we, I, say thank you again. From sponsors to readers, Cronies, staff, and all involved, thanks!
Now with that mushy rambling all wrapped up, here are the details on how the 2020 Ultimate Adventure Long Range Jeep did. After a bumpy start with the pressure plate mounting bolts (Part 23 of the build) and the UPS-based debacle with the hood (Part 24 of the build), the Jeep performed admirably. We only had a few issues on the trip including spinning the tie rod on an obstacle, somehow blowing main fuse once, bypassing a leaky heater core (that wasn't wired to heat anything), adding a radiator over flow whisky bottle, and an electric front locker that unplugged itself on the last obstacle of the last day twice!
All in all, the rig is stable on the trail, basically point and shoot on all but the most technical obstacles, drives down the road well, has plenty of gearing options, and is downright peppy around town.
