New, Faster, Edge Insight CTS3 Monitor

Edge Products takes its popular Insight digital gauge monitor to the next level

Today, aftermarket gauges (boost, transmission temperature, exhaust-gas temperature, voltage, etc. ), or all-encompassing data monitors are major players in the diesel hobby. On everything from street trucks to full-on competition rigs, loaded A-pillar (or other style) gauge pods, or a monitor (LCD screen) mounted on a pickup's windshield typically are added to trucks of all ages.

For many years, Edge Products' Insight CTS2 (the CTS stands for "color touch screen") has been one of the most popular digital gauge monitors in the diesel scene. Developed for 1996 and newer (OBD-II) rigs and similar to the company's original CTS monitor, CTS2 is a comprehensive multiple-gauge display, diagnostic-trouble-code reader, data logger and performance tester, which also can be upgraded to facilitate ECM tuning.

Despite CTS2 being a very good device, its speed (or lack thereof according to the users' rank-and-file) left a lot to be desired. Well, as a response to enthusiasts' requests and after a lengthy development and testing period, Edge's all-new Insight CTS3 is finally here! And, upon preliminary inspection, this new unit has us thinking it just might be the company's best Insight to date. Why, you ask? Read on.

With Insight CTS3, Edge Products has made several key changes that address the look, feel and function of the plug-and-play OBD-II device. First, the screen is bigger, measuring five inches in size, and the case is much slimmer. It's just a sexier package now, versus the boxy CTS2 device.

The upgrade we think is probably most important is speed. A new ARM 9 TI processor brings significantly faster data reporting and instant "On" to the monitor. After completing the initial setup procedures, CTS3 is hot as soon as the engine fires. Gone is the long delay at startup, which was one of the gripes users had about the Insight CTS2.

The processor also makes the touchscreen much more responsive to finger swipes (left, right, up, down), making moving between functions a lot easier than it was with the somewhat finicky touchscreen on CTS3's predecessor. From a computing perspective, the updated Insight now has more than one gigabyte of RAM for data storage, too.

The last cool piece of technological advancement is Insight CTS3's Wi-Fi capability. No longer do you need to connect the device to a laptop in order to complete software updates. Now, the only thing necessary is a strong Internet signal and you're good to go.

Of course, all of the tried-and-true data measuring and recording features, as well as the personalization functions of the previous Insight, are come on the CTS3. That includes performance tests, diagnostic trouble code reader, EAS compatibility, gauge color and layout changing, data logging, etc.

The all-new Edge Products Insight CTS3 retails for $399.99, which we think is a good deal for the speed and improved user experience it provides.
